Fayette COUNTY'S 9-1-1 DISPATCH CENTER
UPDATE
You have probably read where our
neighbor to the west has had some
problems with emergency and 9-1-1
dispatch of ambulances, fire and police.
They use a system which relays the phone
call to who they think should respond.
This can lead to mistakes and finger
pointing as to who is to blame.
That is not the case in Fayette County.
Presently all emergency calls are routed
through the Fayette County Sheriff's
Department. The Sheriff's Dispatch
sends the appropriate unit to the
emergency called in. They are on the
phone until the emergency is dealt with,
and are accountable for making sure the
right department is called out.
There is a close
relationship between the 9-1-1 Board and the
Sheriff's Dispatch. The 9-1-1 Board
funds most of the high-tech equipment needed
to make sure the calls that come in are
answered correctly, recorded, and that the
needed information is available to the
dispatchers. The funds the 9-1-1 Board
uses come from your monthly phone bill's
emergency communication charge. This
year the 9-1-1 Board has allocated enough
money to hire three additional dispatchers
to help relieve the overload of responding
to all calls, both county and cities.

Fayette
County's 2010-11 BUDGET IS PASSED
Last Tuesday
night, the Fayette County Commission passed
the Budget for 2010-11. While revenues are
very tight and expenses seem to always be
increasing, the Commission passed a budget
with no tax increase. The tax rate remained
at $1.4781 for $100 of Assessed Value. Most
departments had some cuts and no cost of
living was given to employees. For those who
know someone who is employed by the County,
the increase in employee health insurance
premiums which the County pays will be paid
by the County. I hope that the general
public sees little, if any, reduction in
services, but keep in mind that the
employees will be doing the same job with
somewhat fewer resources. With financial
times as tough as the one we are going
through now, every effort was made not to
raise taxes on people with other financial
concerns.
